Week 264 (9th September 2022)
John and Peter have started secondary school this week and have been allocated a locker each.
The lockers need a 3-digit code.
John and Peter are making 3-digit codes to choose from for their new locker code.
The digit 0 is not used.
John only uses odd digits.
Peter only uses even digits.
John can make x more codes than Peter.
Assume that digits cannot be repeated.
Work out the value of x.
Answer:
John:
Possible combinations = 5 x 4 x 3 = 60
Peter:
Possible combinations = 4 x 3 x 2 = 24
Therefore:
x = 60 – 24 = 36
