Week 382 (14th February 2025)

Sophie has bought her partner a big box of chocolates for Valentine’s Day (which she is hoping to share!)

There are 80 sweet treats in the box.

14 of the sweets have soft centres.

33 of the sweets are white chocolates and the rest are milk chocolates.

A sweet is taken from the box. Work out the probability that the sweet treat is milk chocolate.

Answer:

As there are 80 chocolates you can find the number of milk chocolates by subtracting the number of soft centres and white chocolates so

80 – 14 – 33 = 33

Therefore, there are 33 milk chocolates in the box and the probability the sweet treat selected is a milk chocolate is 33/80
