Ollie and his family have been on holiday in Cornwall.  

During their holiday they hired a small boat and travelled 350km in it.  

The cost of hiring the boat was:  

• First day: £180  

• Each extra day: £120  

• Each kilometer travelled: 40p  

The total cost of hiring the boat was £800.  

Calculate how many days Ollie hired the boat for.  

Answer:  

Travel cost: 350 x £0.40 = £140  

Hire cost: £800 – £140 = £660  

Extra days: (660 – 180)/120 = 4  

Total days = 4 + 1 = 5  

Total days = 5
