As any business grows, its finance function can struggle to keep up. Reports take longer to prepare, information sits in different systems and a busy team has less time to help the owner understand what the numbers mean.
Helping businesses address those challenges is the thinking behind The Finance Engineers, which we officially launched at our annual gathering on 18 September 2026.
Held at Bristol & Bath Science Park, the launch party brought together clients, candidates, colleagues and friends. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate eleven years of Artemis Clarke and introduce what comes next.
What eleven years have taught us
Since founding Artemis Clarke in 2015, we have helped growing businesses recruit senior finance leaders and access experienced Fractional Finance Director support.
We are accountants ourselves, so we understand the work these people are being asked to do. A capable finance leader needs clear responsibilities, workable processes and useful information to help the business move forward.
As the business changes, those foundations need attention too. A process that worked when the business was smaller can become slow or difficult to manage. Software may have useful features that nobody has had time to explore. Important knowledge can sit with one person.
That affects more than the finance team’s workload. It can delay a cash forecast or leave the owner waiting for information before making a decision.
Our Financial Health Checks created a way to explore those wider questions. As clients asked for more detailed reviews of their finance functions, the next step became clearer: helping them put practical improvements into place.
What The Finance Engineers does
Led by Kate Clarke and Myles Arnott, The Finance Engineers helps growing SMEs improve how their finance functions work.
It brings together practical finance experience, process improvement and technology. The starting point is understanding what the business needs from finance and what is getting in the way.
That might mean simplifying month end, clarifying who is responsible for each step, improving reporting or making better use of existing systems. AI and automation can form part of the solution where they serve a useful purpose.
The aim is to give the team more capacity and help owners get the information they need to manage cash, understand profitability and plan ahead.
Thank you for being part of it

We were delighted to share the launch with so many people who have supported Artemis Clarke over the years. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our team and wider community for helping us reach this point.
The Finance Engineers builds on that experience, with a practical focus on helping finance functions support the next stage of business growth.
