Week 390 (11th April 2025)

Sam’s Dad has bought a bag of small Easter eggs to use for an Easter egg hunt over the holidays.

The bag contains only red, green and blue coloured Easter eggs.

8 of the Easter eggs are red.

15 of the Easter eggs are green.

The rest of the Easter eggs are blue.

Sam can’t wait until Easter Sunday and chooses one egg at random from the bag.

The probability that this is a green egg is 3/8.

Work out the number of blue eggs in the bag.

Answer:

Since the probability of a green Easter egg is 3/8 it means that 15 is 3/8 of the total amount of eggs as there are 15 green eggs.

Therefore 1/8 of the total amount of eggs is 15/3 or 5

Therefore the total amount of eggs is 5 x 8 or 40

Since we only want blue eggs you then minus the red and green eggs from the total

40 – 8 – 15 = 17 blue eggs.
