Amy has walked to the local green grocers to buy some fruit. She realises that the shop is only accepting cash today. Amy has £7.00 in cash to spend.
The prices of some of the fruit is shown below:
Pineapple (each) £1.15
Bananas (for 1 kilogram) 70p
Strawberries (for a 200 g pack) £1.30
Amy buys 2 pineapples and 3 kilograms of bananas.
Amy spends the remaining money on strawberries. Work out the mass, in grams, of strawberries that Amy buys.
Answer:
First work out how much money Amy spent on pineapples and bananas
2 pineapples means 2 x £1.15 meaning she spent £2.30
3 bananas means 3 x 70p meaning she spent £2.10
Meaning in total she spent £2.30 + £2.10 = £4.40
This means Amy spent £7.00 – £4.40 or £2.60 on strawberries
To find how many strawberries do £2.60 / £1.30 = 2
This means she bought 2 200g packs so bought 400g
